During this Public Service Recognition Week, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) proudly extends its deepest gratitude to the dedicated public servants whose work strengthens global health, advances science and safeguards communities around the world.
To the scientists, clinicians and researchers at the National Institutes of Health, we acknowledge your creative and dedicated pursuit of discovery and innovation. Your work drives forward the understanding of tropical diseases and accelerates the development of new diagnostics, treatments and preventive measures. We also recognize your commitment to speaking up for science — ensuring that evidence, integrity and transparency remain at the forefront of public health decision-making.
We honor the extraordinary contributions of those who served through U.S. Agency for International Development and those now within the U.S. Department of State, advancing lifesaving global health programs and partnerships in some of the world’s most challenging environments. Your efforts have expanded access to essential care, reduced the burden of infectious diseases and improved the lives of millions. We also recognize that periods of transition and uncertainty have placed additional strain on the global health workforce, and we commend those who have continued this mission under evolving circumstances.
We also recognize the public health professionals at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, whose expertise, vigilance and commitment protect communities at home and abroad. Your leadership in disease surveillance, outbreak response and health promotion remains vital to global health security. This year, we also celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Epidemic Intelligence Service, whose officers have stood on the front lines of outbreak detection and response, exemplifying excellence in applied epidemiology and service.
We further commend those within our defense research agencies and across the Department of Health and Human Services who are advancing the latest tools and technologies to address emerging health threats. Your contributions at the intersection of science, security and global health play a critical role in protecting both military personnel and civilian populations.
Across all of these and so many more public service institutions, we recognize not only professional excellence but also the personal commitment and sacrifice that public service demands. Many of you work far from home, in resource-limited settings, or under high-stress and high-stakes conditions. You do so with dedication, integrity and a shared mission to improve health and save lives. During Public Service Recognition Week, ASTMH expresses its profound appreciation for your service. Your work exemplifies the very best of public service and continues to inspire our global community.
